Movie for Our Expert Speaker, Josh

We've been busy...

Lately, we haven't had as much time to post to our blog during our session because the time got cut a little short.   But here's what we've been up to:

  • Tried out "Slowmation" (slow plus animation) with digital cameras and a computer.  Some kids drew picture, some used clay.  Then they took photos and sequenced them on a computer movie-making program to create an animated movie.
  • Narrowed down our selections for products/projects for our final presentation.  Kids will work in separate groups to create the following: a documentary, 2 commercials, and a sitcom/how-to film.
  • Last week we prepared questions for our "skype" guest for this week.  We recorded ourselves in a private "recording room" that we built in the classroom so it was just one student and the camera. Then we put it all together into a film that we can send to our expert guest for him to prepare for Thursday.
That's about it for now...this upcoming week we will continue to work our projects and skype with our expert filmmaker, Josh Dubois!

Signing off,
Miss B.

Info about our Digital Storytelling Cluster

Dear Families and Friends,

We have been exploring the world of digital literacy by getting to know different kinds of technology and thinking about the many ways we share our stories.  So far we have interviewed each other using iPods that record video, created a class blog and individual blogs.

Today we created a SAFE individual profile at www.edmodo.com.  This is ONLY for educators use...so only our students and me.  I have access to everything that goes on.  We are making a community agreement about is appropriate and what information to share.  Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns.  I invite you to make a profile using the "parent code" on your child's profile.
If you would like to read our blog, go to http://digitalstorytelling2012.blogspot.com/.  Our individual blogs are at www.kidblog.org.

Happy Digital Storytelling!
Sincerely,
Miss Bakian

Session 2: February 16, 2012

We had a great day!  First we came up with interview questions to help us get to know other people in our cluster.  Then instead of writing down the answers, we used a video recorder to interview and record the conversation!  We are excited to use this technology in the future for our projects!  After we did two or three interviews, we decided we wanted to have our own place to blog and write about our experience at: http://kidblog.org/storytelling2012/.  We will update there as much as we can...even at home!

At the end, we shared a video called "The Technology of Storytelling" from a TED talk.  Joe Sabia, the presenter, uses an iPad to tell history of storytelling and how it is an evolving, ever-changing thing!  At one time BOOKS were considered innovative...now books become movies, movies are in 3-D...what will the next storytelling innovation be!?

Next week we will:
1. Try out using a digital camera to film each other.
2. Discuss what our purpose/product might be (some ideas are commercials, narrative video diaries, music videos, fiction stories, etc.).
3. Miss B. will share "Good Night iPad" with the cluster!

Until next time...
